They Sachet By...

OK! Everyone from Louisiana has slow danced to this song, New Orleans Ladies, MANY times. But living out of state, I have come to the conclusion that this was not a nationwide hit. Am I right? Are there any people out there from some place other than Mardi Gras Land (a holiday I thought was nationwide as well) that could shed some light. In the meantime, enjoy LeRoux on my playlist.....

  2. Le Roux. I had the 8-track. Yes, I'm that old. Barely.

When I moved to Houston, I got into an argument with some Aggie about Le Roux who claimed they were some local LA band who never had anything more than a regional hit.

Well, somehow I found a guy in Houston who had the old vinyl album in good shape and I borrowed it from him. This guy was a total stranger. I don't even remember how I found him or knew that he had the album because this was pre-web and certainly pre-craigslist.

Anyway, I recorded it to tape and tortured my Aggie friends for months every moment we were in the car together.

Le Roux had another couple of hits on that epic album, just not as big as New Orleans Ladies: Take A Ride On A Riverboat, and Bridge of Silence.

They had another Mtv hit in the early 80's (Carrie's Gone).

I always just assumed everyone in America knew and embraced the greatness that was Le Roux.

  3. Here's more...Jeff Pollard became, or perhaps always was, a Christian. He worked at the Bible and Book store that used to be on Florida Blvd right across from Putt Putt, next door to Cullan's Toys (around 84-85). He was quite a theologin, and I used to go in there and have great, deep converstions with him about dispensationalism and whatnot. I never asked him to sing the opening of Take a Ride on a Riverboat. Never did.
