It's the 20th of December, and the kids are really itching to open "just one present". I'm being strong. I'm actually amazed that we have gifts this year at all. I't's been very tight this year and, especially, the last few months. But here we are with presents for all. Thank you, God.
I'm taking a class in the spring semester. It's a Math, which I hate. But I'll just keep plugging along, and when I'm 70, I'll have my degree. I'll be awesome.
My kids all are doing very well in school. I must say, they are pretty smart. I am proud of all of them.
I'll be going to Baton Rouge the day after Christmas. I am looking forward to seeing everybody, and just being home. That's about it for today.
"Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley porch was enough."

Upon request...
I'm a bad blogger. I'll admit it. So here are the things that make me happy in December....
1. When the grinch's heart grows 4 sizes that day.
2. Christmas lights- they're still captivating!
3. George Bailey
4. Carole's gold, thigh high, spike heeled holiday boots from Shoe Heaven. (Shoe Heaven is a shoe store in the hood that I am still convinced is a front for an al qaeda cell.)
5. Going to a late movie on Christmas night after we've all eaten too much.
6. Mariah Carey's Christmas CD and ALL Elvis Christmas music.
7. The loud, funny, dysfunctional madness of the Louque household.
8. Watching bowl games. (and winning this year's Bowl Fest!)
9. The ominous fear when the Abominable Snowman is tracking Rudolph.
10. Fireworks on New Year's Eve and perhaps a glass or two of wine.
Please add your own. Merry Christmas and thanks for regarding me. I love you all.

My Swiss Cheese Heart
I've been told over the years (or maybe I just thought it) that when you you lose someone, you know, to death, that it leaves a void or hole in your heart. It changes you permanently. Can't be filled or repaired. Just a hole.
Daddy has been gone now for, well, almost 5 years. I think of him everyday. I hear his voice warning me of bad neighborhoods; telling me to give people hell (I try); we would have discussed so many war documentaries by now. He could say outlandishly closed-minded things and I could get exasperated. His voice is very clear to me, his laugh (or snicker), his hair. His tenacious love and loyalty to his grandkids-I really wish he could see Andrew play his guitar, or see Evan cock his gun (arm) and then throw somebody out stealing second. Bradley still hears him. We laugh all the time at PawPaw's take on some subjects. I guess I mostly miss having someone love me like that. I miss him walking around completely making a difference wherever he was.
Anne Lamott, my favorite modern author, once wrote that "you will eventually lose someone that you can't live without." Yep. That's it. That is where I am today and tomorrow. Death sucks and love is wonderful. I know it's just part of life.

Haircuts
Well, I got my hair cut yesterday. The only person that has given me a good haircut (in my life,I think) is John at LeSpalon. That's it. My head looked like it had a big mushroom top on it this morning. So, I got out my scissors and cut some layers. It looks better. I'm actually getting pretty good in a do-it-yourself kind of way. I cut Robin's hair all the time, Bradley's, Honey's and Isabelle's, Jacob's, Carolyn's, and I'm soley in charge of Pony Boy's mohawks. The list keeps growing.
I can remember Mama Louque having me cut her hair when I was still in middle school. I did it for years. Hers was a short cut, so it was difficult. But she had curls, which hid the mistakes. Then there were the Big Ken haircuts. Poor Ken. Those were strictly a result of financial hardship for him.
Andrew lets me do trims, but can't quite get over that clipper malfunction that ate his bangs almost to the scalp. That was bad. I had a #8 guard on, but it felt like it does when you're mowing grass and you hit a patch that is too long for the blades, but the mower gathers strength and goes WOMPF. It was bad. I cried, and Andrew had to live with weird hair for awhile. He wouldn't let me just buzz it. Never do bangs with clippers. Never.
So my portfolio keeps growing. I didn't plan it. It just keeps happening. I don't charge anyone, so I think I'm legal.

Update
Well it's been 10 months. Sorry. Here's an update on our family:
Bradley graduated. He is continuing his classes at Sante Fe and will transfer next fall to either FSU or Southeastern (Christian). These things can and probably will change. He went to Egypt in June with Joshua Expeditions and loved it. I would love for him to go on more trips with them. You should check out their site.
Andrew is going to the public high school. He gets to see Krisi everyday, and who could ask for more? I can't blame him. I love Krisi, too. He is making good grades and playing guitar in the church band. I am so proud when I see him up there on stage. He's pretty shy, so it's a big deal. He has also become quite a phenom on Guiatar Hero. You may think you're good. Whatever. He kicks it on the highest level. It's going to awesome on his resume.
Evan is also going to the high school. Yes, I've thrown my children to the wolves. He played football this season. He's QB and WR on offense, and corner on Defense. Sorry for bragging, but he's the man. I am most proud, though, that he seeks out the "uncool" kids to befriend. Evan enjoys a misfit. I love that. I pray that God continues this in him.
Honey and Isabelle are homeschooling. Yep. It's just me and the girls! Isn't that different? I'm enjoying our time since I know how quickly things change. Honey is writing and illustrating a book, and Isabelle is working really hard on cursive handwriting. Good times.
